During the course of our work for you we are likely to handle your personal and sensitive data and to this extent we are likely to be both a data controller and a data processor.

Sensitive data includes things like your medical history, genetic data and medical records, details of trade union activities and details of your ethnicity, or your religious, political or philosophical belief or sex life and sexuality.

The lawful bases for storing and processing your personal and sensitive data are obligation to you in contract, the establishment, exercise or defence of a legal claim and consent, which you confirm by signing documents we send to you in your matter.

Sometimes we will need to share this data with third parties such as Courts, barristers, medical and other experts and solicitor firms or insurers acting for the other side. We will seek your consent before doing so.

We have robust and secure systems for handling your personal and sensitive data to ensure confidentiality and will take measures to ensure the protection of personal and sensitive data obtained by us. However we cannot guarantee the security of any information sent to us online and can not accept responsibility for misuse or interception of such data before it reaches us. You should always ensure any such data is encrypted with a strong password.

Your personal and sensitive data will not be kept for longer than is necessary, which is usually a period of at least 6 years from conclusion of your matter, but may be indefinitely in certain instances such as claims for compensation which result in life long periodical payments.

Our place of business is shared with E Rex Makin & Co., with whom we work in association and share facilities. To the extent that you contacted E Rex Makin & Co. for assistance with your matter and were introduced to Liverpool Legal, your continuing instructions and acceptance of our terms and conditions of business will constitute your consent to transfer to and processing of your personal and sensitive data by Liverpool Legal, its directors, partners, consultants and employees. Your matter shall remain confidential to Liverpool Legal.
